Caring For Your Wax Wraps

Easy to use and just as easy to care for, our wraps will last for up to a year and can be refreshed to last even longer. When cleaning your vegan wax and beeswax wraps, most of the time a quick brush down or wipe with a cold damp cloth will do.

To give them a thorough wash, follow our three simple steps:

  1. Fill your sink with cold water and a mild dishwashing soap
  2. Pop your wraps in the sink and don’t be afraid to give them a good scrub with a sponge or hard brush
  3. Rinse them off and hang to dry, then store or start using again

Once used, washed and dried, we often get asked how to store wraps when they aren’t being used. You’ve got a few different options, but really as long as they are kept away from too much heat they can be stored almost anywhere!

  1. Hang your beeswax wraps up using a bulldog clip (which is also perfect for drying them!)
  2. When they are clean and dry, roll them up and pop in a jar to store.
  3. Fold them up and store in a drawer.

Long Term Care of Wax Wraps

X

Our wraps are very versatile and will last for up to a year with the right care.

As you use your wraps more and more, their texture will change and small marks and creases will appear. This isn’t a sign to get rid and start again, it just means it’s time to refresh them.

Has someone who-must-not-be-named decided to scrub your beeswax wraps under hot water?

The Electric Oven Method

X

  • Pre-heat the oven to 60 degrees (for fire safety please make sure your oven is electric and not gas!)
  • Line a large oven tray with a sheet of baking paper and pop the wrap onto the baking paper
  • Pop in your oven for 3-4 minutes, keeping a close eye on the wrap the whole time
  • When wax is melted and wrap is soft, take out of the oven, lift the wrap and waft until cooled

The Iron Method

X

  • Turn your iron on high with the steam function off
  • Cover your ironing board with a large tea towel and large sheet of baking paper
  • Place wrap on baking paper and add another sheet of baking paper on top
  • Move iron around wrap until all the wax has melted
  • When finished, remove the baking paper, lift the wrap and waft until cooled

What to do with really old Wax Wraps

X

  • Rewax them! Using our handy Rewax Bars and following the steps in the videos above will help to make your wraps as good as new! We’re big believers in making things last as long as possible, which is why we created our handy rewax bars to help you refresh and rewax your wraps for as long as possible.
  • Eco-friendly firelighters! If the cotton on your wraps is faded and frayed, you probably can’t refresh your wraps anymore. Instead, cut them into strips, twist and use as environmentally friendly firelighters. They are completely waterproof and slow burning, perfect for campfires, BBQs and firesides.
  • Pop them in your compost. Our wraps are made of all-natural materials that will naturally biodegrade.
